Peer into the kitchen from Grey St
Authentic Shanghai dumplings here in Brisbane? Yep, and you can actually watch them being made through generous glass windows facing directly onto Grey Street.
Bamboo Basket (what a cute name) is a modern yum cha restaurant serving Northern Chinese style cuisine. Bamboo Basket's specialty is
Xiao Long Bao (literally Little Dragon Buns), which are steamed Shanghai style pork dumplings with soup filling. I highly recommend trying these, but keep your serviette handy because the soup filling might just spurt everywhere.

Freshly steamed Dim Sum
They also serve unusual "Lanzhou style hand pulled noodles" in many flavours and styles - hot, cold, stir fried, tofu, chicken, pork, duck. Other Northern specialties from the Bamboo Basket kitchen include Traditional Peking Duck and Shandong Pork Dumplings.

Modern style yum cha - a la carte restaurant
Yum Cha literally means "drink tea" in Cantonese and usually yum cha restaurants are chaotic places with trolleys crashing around. Bamboo Basket is an elegant, quiet-ish space which has added a refreshing modern twist to traditional yum cha, with take away and a la carte menu options. The
bi-lingual menu is easy to understand with mouth watering photos to help with the decision making process. Unlike many yum cha restaurants, they have designed the menu with vegetarians and gluten free diets in mind.

Bamboo Basket - Grey St, Southbank
Our lunch table was covered in bamboo baskets full of fresh dim sum dumplings - steamed, pan fried, deep fried, puffs, spring rolls (for the kids). It was so tasty, we just kept ordering more.

Bamboo Basket is the perfect stop off on the way to the theatre, cinema or just to have a break from the mayhem of Southbank.
