Brisbane is well-known for its spectacular scenery and vibrant, laid-back atmosphere, so it's no surprise this city is well-endowed with options for day trips. But what exactly is the best day trip in Brisbane? How does the bewildered non-expert choose from this city's vast array?

Here at Weekend Notes, we have a wealth of information collated by our crew of day trip connoisseurs. These committed folk spend endless hours hunting down first-rate days out. It's a relentless job, but, as they say, someone has to do it.

Some of our specialists focus on the day trip that features wide open space - there are suggestions of picnic spots here and here and beaches here.

There's information on nearby national parks here and here.

For the day-tripper with energy, there's also a list of Brisbane walks provided here.

Gardens can be a great spot for a day trip too. See some suggestions here and here.

Other day trip aficionados here have spent long hours tracking down pleasant wineries. You can see their suggestions here and here.

You could even leave the car at home and travel to a winery on horseback.

There are others here with the taxing task of sampling fresh strawberries at pick-your-own-fruit establishments. You can see the results of their extensive labours here and here.

And still the list goes on. There are reviews of parasailing, koala sanctuaries, honey farms, glow worm caves and oodles of historic houses.

My favourite day trip is a drive through the Hinterlands to Maleny or Montville; check out the galleries and craft stores, have a picnic lunch somewhere, and take the scenic route home. The same plan applied to northern NSW is just as good.

At the moment our current favourite is a trip up Mount Glorious, stopping off for lunch at Mt Glorious Restaurant and Cafe. Their Wagyu Burgers and desserts are legendary!

Redcliffe is an amazing place to go for a days get away. I went with a friend a few months ago, we had a swim in the sea and then into the pool, and then we had a lovely pizza and coffee while looking at the water. After a look round the shops along the waterfront we went back to Brisbane feelilng like we had been away for a weekend, it was very relaxing.

A great day to be had is at Tambourine Mountain to experience bush walks, antique shops, cafes, restaurants, unique items shops, stroll through the streets each Sunday for the markets or watch the daredevils hang glide off the mountains. If you want to stay there are many lovely B&B's, cottages and motels to choose from.
