Feel like getting away from the rat race and spending some time in the country? 2012 is officially 'Year of the Farmer', and this coming May 26 & 27 is Farm Day Weekend. The program is a great way to share in the spirit of Year of the Farmer, giving city families the opportunity to visit a farm family for a "hands on, boots on" experience. Since 2006, in an attempt to bridge the urban - rural divide, farm families across Australia, have been voluntarily hosting city families for a day. This is a great chance to discover something more about a farmer's life and gain a deeper understanding of the effort involved in producing the food that arrives in our shops and on our tables.

Farm Day is a day of fun and friendship with both families getting involved in the farm's day to day activities and enjoying a prepared lunch together. There is no age limit, however families with primary school aged children are given priority, as they benefit the most from the experience.

Sign up at the Farm Day website to register your family and a Farm Day Match Maker will contact you to arrange the event. Maybe plan to head out of town for the whole weekend and enjoy some sights along the way? Sounds great to me - see you in the pig pen.

Great idea. Much less expensive than a 'farm stay'. Thanks for sharing.
