KUKs Hosts Origami Workshop

Kamikaze Uber Krafter's (KUKs) is hosting an exclusive origami workshop by the paper installation studio Trial and Error this Sunday at the Abbottsford convent.
Trial and Error, run by Sarah Oliver and Cyndi Setia, produce large scale paper installations for exhibitions. Anyone who attended the March Finders Keepers Market at the Docklands will probably remember the large colorful, paper triangles hanging off the ceiling.
Attendees will learn how to make a paper crane, hearts and baubles that can be used for different occasions.
The workshop is the first of many workshops KUK's founder Toula Karayiannis hopes to offer attendees in the future. KUKs is a monthly initiative that began in January this year and is open to everyone.
Toula, an educator and web designer, was inspired to set up KUKs with a group of friends, by her childhood memories of her Greek mother crocheting around the kitchen table with her friends, chatting and laughing.
KUKsters, meet once a month. They bring a project to work on, share existing skills or learn new skills in a relaxed and friendly environment.
We try to bring inspiration to you, for a bigger and better life. We are trying to build a creative community to make stuff that matters. It is a chance to connect with others and make friends in an informal and important way," says Toula.
Plenty of people coming to KUKs are not crafty arty types and are thrilled to walk away having made something as simple as a necklace made from buttons or a puppet.
Attendees are diverse bunch ranging from photographers, computer programmers, artists, illustrators, writers, puppeteers, knitting and crochet enthusiasts.
The monthly sessions are about `making stuff that matters' but Toula is planning to launch a creativity school early next year where people can develop their skills further.
