Melbourne's Docklands
Melbourne has been classed as the world's most liveable city, but you do need some cash to really have fun right here in Melbourne - or do you? There are some great things to do in Melbourne when you are 'broke' or to be more politically correct, 'a bit short of cash.' We all have been there at one point or another, but at least these periods of 'being broke' are only temporary. Here is a great guide on the best things to do in Melbourne when cash strapped, and these recommendations are not in any particular order:
1. Go to Docklands

Tasting the most filling ice creams at Docklands
Walk along the Docklands Promenade, and ensure you buy yourself an ice cream (maybe not the best idea on a rainy or a really chilly day) from the igloo like ice creamery, and you will be full for quite a while. A great walk, or you can opt for the
Melbourne Bike Share (remember to use a helmet) and if you are even down at Docklands on a Sunday, remember to check out the
Sunday Market at Docklands for even greater inspiration.
2. Catch the City Circle Tram

Melbourne's Free City Circle Tram
A great free way to travel around the city and explore some other free things to do is to use the
City Circle Tram.
3. The Gardens

parks.
4. Southbank

River Side Quay
There is always something going on down along the Yarra Promenade, and if you head on down towards the Melbourne Convention Centre, you could find yourself attending a free exhibition (like the travel shows that are occasionally on for free) or you could be seeing some street theatre, or some night entertainment (also for free) along the Crown promenade. The food around this area provides great value for money.
5. Federation Square
Federation Square is a great meeting place. Chill out underneath the umbrellas or attend on of the free events. You also have the
NGV Ian Potter Centre located nearby, where the various exhibitions are often free.
6. Eat out at one of Melbourne's 'Best Cheap Eats' establishments.
