For anyone visiting Hahndorf for the day, there is a lot to stores to look at selling items such as smallgoods, preserves and leather goods. But if you happen to have children with you, they may not find these places very interesting.

It is for this reason that anyone visiting Hahndorf with kids should visit Misty Hollow, a toy shop with a fantasy village in the back. How many toy shops do you know that can boast that?

Located on the Main Road in Hahndorf, Misty Hollow may not look like much at first glance. A small toy shop which sells an array of toys, ranging from old fashioned toys to more modern ones the kids of today would easily recognise.

The store also sells a range of novelty items including whoopee cushions and shock pens. There is always a good range of toys and deals are in place for certain items.

Of course the shop has no where near the amount of toys the commercial toy stores do, but it isn't meant to. It has a charming look with a nice atmosphere attached to it and the staff are always helpful if you have any enquiries.

But as previously mentioned, it isn't the toys that are the main attraction, it is the store's Fantasy Cave, a series of dioramas depicting a fantasy village inspired by Kenneth Grahame's The Wind in the Willows.

For over 25 years, Misty Hollow's Fantasy Cave has delighted children with its colourful display and interesting characters. The hand made exhibits are colourful and interesting, with each scene displaying something different, with some of the scenes showing characters with moving parts. An audiobook reading of The Wind in the Willows playing in the background as you walk through the Fantasy Cave just adds to the fantasy atmosphere.

With just a $2 entry fee, it is a fun and cheap detour for your kids on the Main Street.

The combination of a toy store and a fantasy village is enough of a reason to take your children to see Misty Hollow. From a past visitor to a future one believe me, it is a fun and unforgetable stop on your trip through Hahndorf.
