Naracoorte Swimming Lake

Close to the Victorian border lies the South Australian town of Naracoorte located on the limestone coast. Naracoorte is well known for its natural attractions such as the Naracoorte Caves and the Nature Park. Naracoorte is roughly a three to four hours drive from Adelaide, so if you're driving down the south east across to Victoria then Naracoorte is a great place to stop by especially with many different accommodation options to choose from.

In the town of Naracoorte is a different attraction which has become a huge success to the people of Naracoorte and the towns visitors, especially during the warmer season. Located in town close to the Nature Park is the Naracoorte Swimming Lake. The lake is a huge man made lake, covering almost a hectare and holding 11 million litres of water, making the lake one big swimming pool. The Lake is seven times the size of an Olympic swimming pool and is made from a concrete wall and floors, it holds chlorinated water and ranges from 1m to 2m deep.

Although made from concrete the lake has a natural appearance. Sand surrounds the edge of the lake, the water is sparkling clear and immaculate lawns and shaded picnic areas are set around the lake, it's a piece of paradise inland for the town of Naracoorte.

This magnificent artificial lake is well maintained and is an attraction itself for the town. With the filtration system keeping the water clean and safe for all to enjoy during summer, the lake is the only aquatic facility in town. It is open during the warmer months, usually from December to the end of March. There is a safety fence surrounding the lake along with a canteen on site toilets, and lifeguards to ensure safety for everyone.

At Naracoorte Swimming Lake you can enjoy a day swimming in the lake without getting crowded, and it certainly is a different aquatic experience from your average local swimming pool. There is a nicer feel to the lake than other aquatic centres or pools and with the environment surroundings you along with anyone can enjoy this lake on a warm afternoon. If your stopping by Naracoorte to check out the caves or the Nature Park, the Swimming Lake would also make as a great activity to add to your list. With all the necessary facilities at the Naracoorte Swimming lake you can splash in the lake all day or have a rest under the shaded Red Gums on the lawn.
