As you approach the bright red exterior with the sign bearing the venue's name—spelled out in various font types, you immediately understand that Ted & Honey Cafe in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn is casual, fun and relaxing.
Co-founded by Michelle (Honey) and her bother, Executive Chef Chris "Ted" Jackson, the family-friendly restaurant fosters a sense of community—from its simple and homey design, which inspires lively conversations, to the use of roasted coffee beans from D'Amico Foods and bread from Caputo's Fine Foods—both of which sit on nearby Court Street. Organic produce and hormone-free meats and eggs originate from local farmers in New York and Pennsylvania.
Sip your morning cup of Joe, supplied by D'Amico, which roasts their coffee beans onsite. For dinner, opt for wine or a bottle of local Brooklyn beer.
Grab one of the square wooden tables along the brick walls boasting oversized four-color photos, or the long communal table with a vase containing stems of fresh flowers. If dining al fresco is more to your liking, head to one of the tables out front, and surf the Internet using their free WiFi while you eat.
Select your breakfast, lunch or dinner preferences from the printed menus, or from the lists written in colorful chalk on the blackboards.
Even the menus add to the venue's cheery and fun air.
Your options include baked goods, salads and light fare or something heartier—the meatloaf sandwich, the house-smoked turkey club or the buffalo burger, made from grass-fed buffalo. The thin crust pizza of the day, or sliders topped with slices of fried onion rings are other tasty finds. Kids dine on wholesome panini sandwiches, such as house-made peanut butter, banana and local honey.
Enjoy meals and condiments, such as ketchup and mustard—made from scratch.
Don't forget to peruse the shelves along the walls for some of Chef Ted's bottled and canned handmade creations. Bring home some pickled veggies, and the award-winning orange apricot jalapeno and chipotle hot sauce to spice up your own dishes—perfect for your next gathering with family and friends.
