So I was fortunate enough to be invited to an afternoon tea at
The Waiting Room in the lobby of
Crown Towers. I have a close and loving relationship with food of all kinds, so I had been looking forward to this treat for weeks.

I worked up quite an appetite on what felt like a 3km hike from the car park to the Waiting Room, so I was more than ready to eat my fill once tea was served. The Waiting Room itself is very stylishly decorated, with lots of opulent, shimmery elements and the staff was very professional and attentive to our needs.
After choosing which package we would all like (the different pricing options are explained at the end of the article), our tea arrived on beautiful tiered cake stands with the food laid out in neat rows. There were 4 finger sandwiches apiece, a couple of small savoury biscuits, 2 scones served with jam and cream and a tempting selection of bite-size sweets.
The sandwiches were delicious with fillings such as smoked salmon with cream cheese and egg with caviar. The orange and vanilla flavoured scones were the stars of the tea, being light and fluffy and served with a truly delectable jam. The variety and quality of the sweets was excellent, with every taste being catered for. The mini apple tart was my personal favourite, closely followed by the fairy eclair.
The whole experience was thoroughly enjoyable and I highly recommend it for a special occasion. My only disappointment was that I couldn't go back for more of the delicious sandwiches, which is something you can do at some of the other afternoon teas offered in Melbourne. Also, a couple more savoury options might be prudent as the biscuits were tiny - possibly a mini quiche or two? To be fair though, the tea was just about the right size to comfortably suffice without leaving one feeling stuffed.
The cost of afternoon tea at The Waiting Room is $42 - if served with tea or coffee (there's a large selection to choose from) or $65 if served with a glass of Duval Leroy champers. It is served from 12pm - 5pm and high tea (I'll have to go back so I can compare) is served from 5 - 9pm.
